AGC to take action against Bloomberg following allegations of PM's interference in Azam Baki probe

PETALING JAYA: The Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) will initiate action against Bloomberg in relation to claims that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim interfered in the disclosure of findings into MACC chief Tan Sri Azam Baki’s shareholdings.

In a statement on Tuesday (March 31), Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar dismissed the foreign news agency's report, dated March 30, claiming the Prime Minister instructed a special committee to delay a report on investigations into Azam Baki.

“The government strongly denies (Bloomberg’s) allegation,” he said.

Shamsul Azri added that the matter is being handled in accordance with established procedures following the presentation of the investigation committee’s findings at a Cabinet meeting on March 11.

He said proceedings have since been initiated under the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) Regulations 1993, which require adherence to specific processes and protocols.

The statement did not elaborate on the nature or timeline of the ongoing proceedings but stressed that due process must be observed.

“Any further developments will be announced from time to time,” Shamsul Azri said.

The issue surrounding Azam’s share ownership has drawn public attention in recent years, with calls for transparency and accountability in handling the matter.

The government reiterated that the current proceedings are conducted in line with regulations, while cautioning against unverified claims that could affect public confidence in the process.
