Tawau authorities withdraw drought disaster declaration for Pulau Sebatik

KOTA KINABALU: The Tawau District Disaster Management Committee has withdrawn its drought disaster declaration for Pulau Sebatik, which was issued at 10am on Wednesday (March 25).

In a statement issued at 1.50pm, Tawau Municipal Council president Joseph Pang, who chairs the committee, said the decision to withdraw the declaration was made in line with the views of the Sabah State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN).

He said the withdrawal was made after it was found that the current conditions no longer met the criteria of a drought disaster for Sebatik following a review and monitoring by the authorities.

“The water supply and weather conditions in Tawau remain under control and stable, although water shortages in parts of Pulau Sebatik are becoming a concern,” he added.

He said they would continue to monitor the situation and advised the public to use water prudently and stay updated through official statements.
