Probe into illegal RON95 filling in Johor begins

JOHOR BARU: Individuals face fines of up to RM1mil, jail of up to three years, or both, for filling RON95 petrol beyond the permitted limit into plastic containers.

Johor Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) director Lilis Saslinda Pornomo, who disclosed this, said her department was investigating an incident in which RON95 petrol was filled beyond the permitted limit into a plastic container at a Skudai petrol station on March 21.

She said the probe followed a viral social media post showing a vehicle allegedly involved in the act.

Lilis Saslinda said the premises was inspected, including a review of CCTV footage and verification of transaction records and purchase receipts.

She said the ministry will also trace the vehicle owner to be summoned for investigation.

“Preliminary checks found two RON95 petrol transactions – one into the vehicle’s tank and another into a plastic container in the boot, exceeding the limit set by the Controller of Supplies,” she said in a statement yesterday, Bernama reported.

For repeat offences, Lilis Saslinda said the fines could reach RM3mil, with jail of up to five years, or both upon conviction, under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

Companies can be fined up to RM2mil, with repeat offences attracting penalties of up to RM5mil.
