Rescue op for missing diver expands search area around Pulau Tenggol


DUNGUN: The search and rescue (SAR) operation area to locate a diver feared missing in the waters off Pulau Tenggol since Friday (March 20) has been expanded to 94.93 square nautical miles around the island.

The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) said the SAR operation for Tam Peng Hoong, 66, which entered its fourth day on Tuesday (March 24), has been intensified, involving multiple agencies and private parties.

"Surface search operations are being carried out using Bot Perkasa 45 from the Pahang MMEA and KM Redang from the Terengganu MMEA, while three diving centre operators on the island are also conducting underwater searches at the incident location," MMEA said in a statement.

It added that weather conditions in the operation area were reported to be moderate, with winds blowing from the northeast at speeds of 20kph to 30kph and waves between 1m and 2m high.

It was previously reported that the local man was feared missing after going scuba diving in the waters off Pulau Tenggol at about 4.30pm on Friday.
