Second teen found drowned at Bintulu waterfall


BINTULU: The search and rescue (SAR) operation for two teenage boys feared to have drowned while bathing at a waterfall in Kidurong has concluded with the recovery of the second victim’s body.

“The Kidurong operations centre received a call from a member of the public at about 11.20pm on Saturday (March 21) regarding the discovery of the body of 13-year-old Daren Dakun Paruscrum,” the state Fire and Rescue Department said in a statement.

The body of Tristan Mariss Marissa Erna, 12, was found around 5.20pm the same day, approximately 5km from the location where the pair had been reported missing.

Both victims were at the Sungai Plan Lot waterfall with two friends, a 13-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl, at around 2pm on Saturday. They were last seen at approximately 2.30pm.

The Fire and Rescue Department said it received an emergency call regarding the incident at 3.22pm.

Following the call, the department launched a SAR operation at the scene to locate the pair.
