Malaysia's strength lies in our unity, collective resolve, says Anwar in Aidilfitri address


PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim called for all Malaysians to remain united and strive towards strengthening ties and working on uplifting each other.

Malaysia, the Prime Minister added in his Hari Raya Aidilfitri message on Friday (March 20), had its unique strength to maintain.

“Our strength as a nation lies in our unity of heart, unity of purpose and collective resolve to preserve harmony and stability," said Anwar.

He said Malaysia was built on collective diversity which is what that paved the path for traditions such as hosting open houses during Aidilfitri for the festivities to be shared and celebrated by all communities.

He called for moderation as Aidilfitri is celebrated as well as to remain sensitive towards the struggles faced by others within and outside of Malaysia.

“With careful planning and a strong foundation, I am confident Malaysia will remain resilient and optimistic, and we can continue to strengthen our economy and face future challenges with unity and determination," said the Prime Minister.

Anwar urged all Malaysians to reemphasise the nation’s commitment of uplifting one another, upholding justice, and ensuring shared prosperity and security.

Referring to the unrest in West Asia, Anwar noted that it had wide-reaching consequences, impacting not only the region but also global economies through higher prices for fuel and essential goods.

“The Government will continue to take all possible measures to alleviate the burden on the rakyat.

“At the same time, we should uphold the spirit of Ramadan by showing compassion and offering support to those in need such as our families, the less fortunate, and travellers," he said.

Amwar explained that the true objective of fasting was to build inner strength as well nurture a continuous spiritual struggle towards becoming better individuals.

He added the fasting month was an opportunity to go through a period that shapes character, strengthens values and deepens discipline and compassion.

“It is my hope that the lessons and spirit of Ramadan will remain within us and continue to guide our actions beyond this holy month,’’ said Anwar.
