JB to get new fire station

JOHOR BARU: A new RM14.5mil fire and rescue station is being constructed near the Rapid Transit System Link (RTS Link) to support rapid urban development in the Johor Baru city centre.

Johor Fire and Rescue Department director Siti Rohani Nadir said the Johor Baru Central station, spanning 4,126.3 sq m, will be located along Jalan Ismail Sultan.

She said the facility is a Category C station, making it larger than the Iskandar Puteri fire station and comparable to the Bandar Baru Kulai station.

“The Johor Baru Central station is part of broader efforts to enhance emergency response capabilities in line with major developments in the city, including the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone and RTS Link.

“The new infrastructure will help ensure that fire safety standards are strengthened and response times to the public are optimised,” she said after the department’s monthly assembly at the state headquarters here yesterday.

Foundation works have already begun, with construction expected to be completed by next year.

In the meantime, the area is served by the Larkin and Kempas fire stations, located about 10km away.

Siti Rohani said two other fire stations in Kluang and Larkin are also being upgraded by next year, while plans are ongoing for a new fire station in Simpang Renggam.

Meanwhile, Johor has received eight new Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) engines to replace older, decommissioned units.

“One of the FRT engines is equipped with a water cannon, which allows for wider extinguishing coverage.

“The water cannon-equipped engine has been placed in Iskandar Puteri due to its proximity to high-risk industrial areas,” she said.

Siti Rohani said the department also received four light off-road vehicles, which have been distributed to several stations statewide.
