Cultural, religious diversity not a gap but a bridge, says S'wak TYT in Hari Raya message

Sarawak Head of State Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi extend Hari Raya Aidilfitri greetings.

KUCHING: Hari Raya Aidilfitri is not just a celebration for the Muslims in Sarawak but showcases the state's multicultural unity and mutual respect, says Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

The Head of State said he was proud to see Hari Raya celebrated in the spirit of unity in Sarawak.

"People from all backgrounds, races and religions visit one another and foster closer ties through the open house tradition which is always observed.

"This shows that cultural and religious diversity is not a gap that divides but a bridge connecting hearts and cultures," he said in his Hari Raya message on Thursday (March 19).

Wan Junaidi said unity among Sarawakians resulted in stability and social harmony, defending the state against external polarising influences.

"Sarawak is the best example of a big family. What makes us unique is that during every celebration, the festivities are enjoyed by everyone from all ethnicities and faiths," he said.

Wan Junaidi also called on Sarawakians to continue supporting development efforts towards becoming an advanced state by 2030.

With a strong sense of unity, he said, Sarawak can forge ahead in the green economy, renewable energy and digital transformation for the wellbeing of future generations.

"The riches of our state lie not only in its natural resources but in the unity of its people," he said.

He also expressed appreciation to security forces, medical personnel and civil servants on duty during the celebration, especially those serving in Sarawak's rural areas.
