Sarawak declares extra Aidilfitri holiday

KUCHING: Sarawak has declared an additional public holiday for Hari Raya Aidilfitri, similar to the federal government's declaration.

State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki said the extra holiday will be on Monday (March 23) if the first day of Hari Raya falls on Friday (March 20).

"If Hari Raya falls on Saturday (March 21), the additional public holiday in Sarawak will be on Friday," he said in a statement on Wednesday (March 18).

He said the declaration was an addition to the public holidays specified in the state's Public Holidays Ordinance.

On Sunday (March 15), Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced an additional public holiday for Hari Raya on either Friday or Monday, depending on the first day of Syawal.

He said this was in appreciation of the people's hard work and dedication to the country, besides facilitating travel plans for the festive occasion.
