Man jailed eight months for defiling temple altar

IPOH: A 33-year-old man has been sentenced to eight months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here for defiling a place of worship.

Perak police chief Datuk Comm Noor Hisam Nordin said the furniture shop assistant pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 295 of the Penal Code on Tuesday (March 17).

He said the accused damaged an altar at a temple in Sunway City last Thursday.

“The man was arrested following a report lodged at 8am on the same day.

“Checks on closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage showed the suspect committing the act,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.

Comm Noor Hisam added that the suspect is believed to have acted alone.

Police also urged the public not to speculate on the incident and to respect the religious sensitivities of all communities.
