Man injured after alleged assault in Tangga Batu


MELAKA: A construction worker was injured after he was allegedly assaulted by a group of men in an incident along Jalan Tangga Batu near the Ar-Rabbani Mosque here on Sunday (March 15).

Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the incident occurred at 4am when the 24-year-old victim was confronted by a man who accused him of causing his younger brother to be arrested in connection with a motorcycle theft case.

"The suspect and several accomplices encircled the victim before striking his right shoulder with a helmet, while the others chased him and attempted to hit him with it.

"The victim was also struck on the head with a stick before bystanders intervened to stop the incident," he said in a statement.

Earlier, a video recording believed to be of the incident went viral on Facebook, but Dzulkhairi said no arrests had been made so far, although the suspects involved had been identified.

"The injured victim has been allowed to return home after receiving treatment and the case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code," he said. - Bernama
