Teenager killed after motorcycle crashes into drain in Kampar


IPOH: A 17-year-old was killed after losing control of his motorcycle and crashed into a drain on Jalan Pasar in Kampar.

Kampar OCPD Supt Mohamad Nazri Daud said the victim, identified as Lew Rok Yew, was pronounced dead on the spot at about 10.10pm on Friday (March 13).

Supt Nazri said the victim was with four of his friends on motorcycles when they saw the police motorcycle patrol unit prior to the incident.

"A policeman told them to stop but they split up and fled.

"The policeman then lit up the beacon light and followed the victim from a distance of about 150m," he said in a statement on Saturday (March 14).

"The victim then went against traffic flow near Jalan Pasar, hit a bump before losing control of the vehicle, crashed into a steel step, and fell into a drain.

"The victim and his friends fled because they were afraid of police actions due to not having licence and modifying their bikes," he added.

Supt Nazri said the victim sustained serious injuries to his head.

"The victim did not own a licence. The motorcycle is registered under his father's name.

"The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act," he added.
