For home-based baker Hasliza Abdullah Tahir, 41, she took a break from the oven to hunt for the perfect Baju Melayu for her husband and two sons.
“I bought some clothes for myself online. I came to this textile store in a supermarket to buy clothes for my husband and two sons as I know their sizes.
“Each of them will have two pairs of baju Raya. If we buy too early, the clothes may not fit when Raya comes,” she said yesterday.
Hazliza said she set aside RM1,000 for Raya this year.
“I don’t have to worry about buying treats like pineapple tarts and biscuits as I can make them,” she added.
Housewife Rogaya Mohd Ramli, 48, said she started making preparations for Hari Raya from October.
“My family made a trip to Kuala Lumpur, so we bought some clothes earlier.
“I have four sons, and each will get four sets of Baju Raya.
“For groceries, I will probably just buy them two or three days before Raya.
“As for the cookies, I will bake them with my mother and sister,” she added.
Housewife Maharizan Tugiman, 42, said her family members have done most of their shopping, from clothes to decorations.
“Each of us will have one set of traditional attire, costing about RM300,” she said.
Maharizan said Hari Raya this year will be more meaningful as her siblings will be visiting Ipoh.
“Usually I have to go to Kuala Lumpur to see them, but this year they will be coming over instead,” she said.
