Furniture factory in Kampung Acheh destroyed in blaze


IPOH: A furniture factory in Kampung Acheh, Lumut, was destroyed in a fire.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the blaze was reported at about 1.04pm on Friday (March 13).

He said fire engines from the Sitiawan, Manjung and Ayer Tawar fire stations, along with members of the Ayer Tawar Volunteer Fire Brigade, were dispatched to the scene.

“The first fire engine arrived at 1.15pm. The scene is about 5km from the Sitiawan fire station,” he said.

“The factory, measuring about 21m (70ft) by 24m (80ft) and classified as a Class A structure, was already about 90% destroyed when firefighters arrived.

“The fire was brought under control at 1.56pm and extinguishing works were ongoing,” he said in a statement on Friday.

No injuries were reported.

He said a total of 26 firefighters and two members of the volunteer fire brigade were involved in the operation.
