Sibu cops nab six for alleged drug activity


SIBU: Six individuals was arrested for alleged involvement in drug activity in two separate cases here.

Sibu Acting OCPD Supt Boniface Bajai said in the first case, the narcotics team arrested a 34-year-old local man on Tuesday (March 10) after an inspection uncovered a plastic packet containing crystalline substances suspected to be methamphetamine.

He said a urine test conducted on the suspect also returned positive for methamphetamine.

“The suspect has six previous records related to drug offences,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (March 11).

The suspect was arrested to assist in investigations under Section 12(2) and Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and will be remanded to facilitate further investigations.

In a separate operation, four local men and a woman aged between 26 and 43 were detained.

Urine tests found all of them positive for methamphetamine.

All suspects were arrested under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

If convicted under Section 12(3) of the Act, an offender may be fined up to RM100,000, imprisoned for up to five years, or both.

Meanwhile, for an offence under Section 15(1)(a), an offender may be fined up to RM5,000, imprisoned for up to two years, or both, and may also be placed under supervision for two years under Section 38B of the same Act.

Boniface added that the police would continue to intensify efforts to combat drug trafficking and abuse.
