Husband of TV actress claims trial to two cheating charges


SEREMBAN: The 41-year-old husband of a television actress claimed trial at separate courts here to two charges of cheating two individuals of almost RM300,000.

At the Sessions Court, Mohd Apri Hazreen Mohd Sapri pleaded not guilty to a charge of deceiving a 56-year-old businessman of RM270,811.

The accused had allegedly conned the businessman into believing that he could get him several plots of land from the Selangor government.

The accused was charged with committing the offence between April 2 and Nov 12 last year at a bank here.

The money was allegedly transferred online into his wife's account.

He was charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating, which carries a jail term of between one and 10 years, caning and a fine upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Nadia Ezzati Mohd Zainal then told the court the prosecution was offering the accused bail of RM50,000 with one surety.

She also asked the court to order the accused to surrender his passport to the court, to stay away from witnesses and to report at the nearest police station once a month until his case is disposed of.

Mohd Apri who was unrepresented pleaded for lower bail as he had to provide for his mother, nine children and his wife who was unemployed.

He also told the court he suffered from various health problems.

Judge Mohamad Kamil Nizam then set bail at RM25,000 with one surety and allowed the other applications by the prosecution.

At the Magistrate's court, Mohd Apri pleaded not guilty to a charge of deceiving a 48-year-old retired army officer of RM23,120 in exchange for a datukship from Terengganu.

He was charged with committing the offence at Seremban 2 from Jan 22 to Nov 9 last year.

Deputy public prosecutor Nik Nur Aqilah Syarfa Nik Zaidi then told the court her team was offering the accused bail of RM3,000 with one surety pending next mention. 

Magistrate Nurul Saqinah then set bail at RM3,000 with one surety.

Both cases were fixed foe mention on April 15.
