Nine of 11 suspects in AKPS commander shooting freed

ALOR SETAR: Nine of the 11 suspects arrested following the shooting incident involving the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) commander in Bukit Kayu Hitam have been released.

Kedah police chief Adzli Abu Shah said 10 local men and a Thai woman, aged between 22 and 60, were arrested around the Bukit Kayu Hitam area.

“Of the nine who were released, seven were granted a bond under Section 118 of the Criminal Procedure Code, while the other two were released on police bail.

“Among the nine released, six were charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 after testing positive for drugs.

“The two remaining suspects are still being detained for further investigation,” he said in a statement yesterday, Bernama reported.

He said police were continuing their investigation and reviewing evidence related to the shooting incident last month, and that efforts to bring those responsible to justice are ongoing.

He urged those with information on the case to contact the police via the MERS 999 hotline or call investigating officer Asst Supt Rosli Hanafi at 019-202 2210.

On Feb 25, an SUV carrying AKPS Bukit Kayu Hitam commander Mohd Nasaruddin M. Nasir was hit by two gunshots while he was on his way to Masjid Al Muhajirin. He escaped unharmed.
