PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin says he is in "detailed discussions" with newly formed Parti Keluarga Malaysia (PKM) but stopped short of saying he will lead the party.
PKM founder, Khairi Jaya, was seated at the main table alongside Hamzah during a buka puasa event he hosted here on Monday (March 9).
"Our discussions require every detail. I don't want anything to be left out.
"When they established the party, perhaps they were in a rush.
"There are certain matters that I feel do not align with my nature as a fighter in this country. Because of that, I need a little time," he explained.
When pressed if he would take the helm of PKM or if the party would be registered in time for a possible snap election, Hamzah appeared optimistic.
"I think there is time," he said, adding registration could happen "as soon as possible."
Hamzah, who is also Opposition leader declined to comment if whether such a move would risk his current parliamentary seat.
"The details must come first. I cannot answer some of these matters yet," he added.
Hamzah also claimed several Bersatu members were wary of attending his buka puasa event.
He said while the event was intended as a non-political religious gathering, the current political climate had made some of his "friends" wary of being seen with him.
"Some are afraid to attend, some feel guilty about coming," he said.
Hamzah, however, reaffirmed his "100% support" for the Perikatan Nasional coalition.
