MACC: Former Minister, 11 others, called up over RM1.1bil govt agreement

PUTRAJAYA: A former minister and 11 others have been called in for statements over a RM1.1bil agreement between the government and a foreign company.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki, however, refused to further elaborate on the identity of the former minister.

“The investigation involved the former minister and also other senior ministry officials,” he said in a press conference at the MACC headquarters on Wednesday (March 4).

He added that the 12 also includes personnel from other government bodies, including the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida).

“There is one witness abroad whom we have tried through various means to call back here. So far, we have not received any response from him.

"We have issued a notice to the media urging him to return to Malaysia from the UK promptly to have his statement recorded," he said

Azam said his role in the matter concerns his appointment after he left a ministry to work with a company that has an interest in this project.
