RM180k aid for Bagan Datuk students

BAGAN DATUK: A total of 901 Indian students and 14 Parent-Teacher Associations (PIBG) in Bagan Datuk received educational assistance amounting to RM180,000.

The allocation was provided by the office of Bagan Datuk MP Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also Deputy Prime Minister, said education has been his priority since he assumed the role of Umno Youth Chief in the constituency in 1982.

“In terms of ethnicity, religion and language, I have focused on learning and education to improve the quality of life for the children of Bagan Datuk,” he said during the event at Dewan Serbaguna Datuk Abdullah Ahmad, Hutan Melintang yesterday.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid’s special officer, Arvend Applasamy, said the allocation comprised RM100 each for 200 kindergarten kids and 691 pupils from Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil, laptops for 10 university students, as well as RM2,000 each for 14 PIBG, Bernama reported.

“This is the fourth year of this programme. This year, it has been expanded to reach more students to ease the financial burden of education on parents,” he said.
