Rafizi's snappy reply to show-cause letter: I will remain in PKR until Parliament is dissolved

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli has issued his reply to the show-cause letter sent to him by PKR following his recent public statement on his plans to contest the 16th General Election (GE16) on a non-PKR ticket.

The Pandan MP's reply, which was posted on Facebook and addressed to PKR secretary-general Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh, sarcastically called into question the reason for the show-cause letter.

"My interview with Sin Chew Daily, as referred to in the show cause letter, has the following meaning as can be understood by anyone with a good command of the Malay language.

"I will remain a member of PKR and serve as the Pandan MP until Parliament is dissolved for the purpose of the 16th General Election.

"I am entitled to have my own plans after Parliament is dissolved and will no longer be bound by the provisions regarding changing parties by Members of Parliament mid-term.

"Therefore, if the statements are understood according to a common sense understanding of the Malay language, they do not require complicated interpretations as attempted in the show cause letter," he wrote in his reply on Saturday (Feb 28).

Rafizi had previously claimed that the intention of the letter was to coerce him to voluntarily leave the party so his current parliamentary seat would be vacated under the law.

Rafizi had also claimed that the letter showed PKR's lack of courage to sack him since doing so would allow him to retain his Parliament seat.

Fuziah, who had said on Friday (Feb 27) that the show-cause letter was merely to allow Rafizi to clarify his position following his public statements about contesting GE16 on a non-PKR ticket.

"He (Rafizi) said he would contest in GE16, but not under the PKR ticket. It may create the perception that he intends to leave the party.

"As such, the show-cause letter offers him the opportunity to clarify. We do not want to take action arbitrarily; it is best that we adhere to the party constitution,” she had said.

Fuziah had added further that PKR did not want to make a hasty decision without first hearing an explanation from the former economy minister.

"On March 1, we will hold a central leadership council meeting. As for the decision regarding Rafizi, we will see how it goes.”
