Elderly woman killed after crashing bike into lorry in Kluang


KLUANG: An elderly woman died after the motorcycle she was riding collided with a lorry.

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh said the incident occurred at Jalan Parit Haji Hashim, Simpang Renggam here at 6.40am on Saturday (Feb 28).

“A lorry driven by a 38-year-old local man was travelling from Jalan Kolam Air and attempting to enter Jalan Parit Haji Hashim.

“Upon reaching the junction, the lorry exited the junction and grazed a motorcycle ridden by a 72-year-old local woman who was heading straight towards the Simpang Renggam market,” he said in a statement.

He added that the motorcyclist died at the scene after sustaining severe head injuries.

“The lorry driver was unhurt and has been arrested.

“He tested negative for drugs and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said.

ACP Bahrin advised road users to always exercise caution and be considerate on the road to avoid any untoward incidents.
