Cops refute viral video alleging roadside bribe in Cheras

PETALING JAYA: Police have denied allegations that an officer accepted a bribe, as claimed in a viral TikTok video posted on Thursday (Feb 26).

Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Rosdi Daud said the video, uploaded by a TikTok user, alleged that a police officer had received money from a motorist by the roadside.

“Checks found that the incident occurred at about 11.20am at the entry and exit junction of Jalan Persiaran Jalil Utama, Bukit Jalil, where four police officers were carrying out crime prevention patrol duties,” he said in a statement on Friday (Feb 27).

He said the officers were taking action against vehicles that were obstructing traffic at the time.

Police had advised the vehicle owner to move the vehicle and to register for the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP) application, and also recorded the owner’s particulars for documentation purposes.

“Two summonses were issued to the driver and to another vehicle owner for obstructing traffic,” he said.

ACP Mohd Rosdi urged the public not to speculate on the matter, as it could lead to misunderstandings regarding police duties on the ground.

He stressed that the police remain committed to upholding integrity and maintaining public trust in the force in the interest of national safety and well-being.

Those with further information on the incident are urged to contact the Kuala Lumpur Police Hotline at 03-2115 9999, the Cheras Police Hotline at 03-9284 5050/ 5051, or the nearest police station.
