Welfare support for teens who lost family to Raub house fire


RAUB: The Pahang Social Welfare Department (JKM) has provided initial support to a pair of teens who lost five family members, including their parents, to a house fire in Kampung Pamah Kulat, Dong here early on Thursday.

Its director Khairul Amri Ahmad said his team has conducted visits, monitoring, and investigations at the scene.

"The JKM counsellors have also provided initial psychological support to reduce their (children's) trauma," he said when contacted.

He said JKM gave assistance from the state government, namely the Immediate Assistance from the District Disaster Fund (TMD) amounting to RM2,000 to the victims' next of kin.

"JKM will provide additional assistance after the burial process is completed, such as mats, blankets, refreshment kits, and hygiene kits to the victims' children," he said.

The fire on Thursday morning claimed the lives of Mohd Alawi Muhammad, 56, and Zaleha Adam @ Ibrahim, 44, as well as their three daughters. Ruby Adira Batrisya, 17, Ruby Adlina Banin, 14, and Ruby Azyan Barizah, 10.

The couple's other two children, namely Ruby Adalia Balqis, 19, a matriculation student in Gambang, Kuantan, and Ahmad Balia Murqam, 15, a student at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Dong were not at home as they were staying at their respective school's dormitory

Pahang Fire and Rescue Department director Datuk Mohd Razam Taja Rahim said the fire had destroyed the house, and three cars and three motorcycles were damaged. - Bernama
