Over 280 tonnes of e-waste found in containers at Port Klang, says AKPS

PETALING JAYA: More than 280 tonnes of e-waste have been found in containers at Port Klang, says the Malaysian Border Control and Protection (AKPS).

Port Klang Entry Control Commander Deputy Comm Datuk Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal, in a statement Tuesday (Feb 24), said that inspections at 11 containers led to the discovery after the consignments had been flagged by scanning machines previously.

"It was found that the containers held a mix of e-waste and aluminium scrap. The waste totalled around 281,874kg," he said.

Investigations showed that the containers entered the country in November and December of 2024.

He added that the containers had been placed in a secure location and are slated for re-export.

"The AKPS will continue inspections on commercial containers suspected of carrying prohibited waste," he said.
