Controversial US envoy's nomination removed, says report

PETALING JAYA: Controversial conservative influencer Nick Adams's nomination as the US ambassador has been removed.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported that Adams, an Australian who became a naturalised US citizen in 2021, confirmed the matter himself, adding that he has been instead "promoted" into a new, unknown role.

“Brilliant detective work, Mick! I’ve been promoted from the role of ambassador! More details on that will come this upcoming week.

“I’m sure you’ll see it if you’re looking out for it. You might want to consider waiting a few days so you can break the news to your dozens of readers. Good luck on your hit piece, son,” he replied to an email from the Australian publication on Feb 24.

It was also reported that Adams was absent from a long list of nominations resubmitted to the Senate in January.

The list also includes possible names for ambassadors to Hungary, Norway and the Philippines. Adams was not in another list submitted this month.

US President Donald Trump has still not nominated an ambassador to Australia, 13 months into his presidency.

Adams, a staunch Trump’s Make America Great Again (Maga) supporter and author who once served on a Sydney council, was named the US ambassador to Malaysia in July last year.

The nomination was met with an uproar from Malaysians protesting it, following Adams disparaging remarks about Islam and the Palestinian cause.
