MCA ready to work with ex-Bersatu members

Wish for prosperity: Dr Wee (centre), flanked by his wife Datin Seri Jessica Lim (right) and Ling (left) as well as other guests, tossing the yee sang at the Chinese New Year open house for the Ayer Hitam parliamentary and Yong Peng state constituencies in Taman Kota, Yong Peng.

YONG PENG: MCA is open to working with former Bersatu affiliate wing members who have exited the party following its ongoing internal crisis, says MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

He said his party would not, however, reach out to “pull them in” but maintained that it is ready to work with ex-Bersatu members for a common struggle.

“Actually, many of them were formerly with MCA. In any party, there will be those with differing views. As long as we can work together and strive for the rakyat’s wellbeing, I have no objection,” said the Ayer Hitam MP.

Dr Wee was speaking to reporters at a Chinese New Year open house for constituents in Taman Kota here on Saturday night.

The event, filled with food and cultural performances, was jointly held with state health and environment committee chairman Ling Tian Soon, who is also Yong Peng assemblyman.

On Feb 13, Bersatu sacked 17 members, including deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.

This led to the resignation of several party division leaders, including 11 in Johor as well as the state Bersatu associate wing chief.

On another matter, Dr Wee said discussions on seat allocation have not been held yet despite speculation that the upcoming Johor election is drawing near.

He said the state government will be entering its fourth year of the current term next month.

“The necessary preparations have been made. I am confident of Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi’s leadership and the hardworking attitude of the state excos.

“We have not discussed seats yet, but we know what needs to be done.”
