73-year-old rider dies in collision with MPV at Bukit Naning


MUAR: A man riding a motorcycle died after swerving into another lane and being hit by an MPV.

Muar OCPD Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said the incident occurred at Bukit Naning, Bakri, at 7.36am on Tuesday (Feb 10).

“The MPV driver was travelling straight when the victim, riding a motorcycle on the left shoulder of the road, suddenly changed lanes to cross the road, resulting in a collision.

“The 73-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe head and body injuries,” he said.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

“If convicted, the offender can face a minimum five-year and maximum 10-year jail term, a fine of RM20,000 to RM50,000, and disqualification from holding a driving licence for no less than five years,” he said.

ACP Raiz Mukhliz urged anyone who witnessed the incident to contact Inspector Noor Khairun Izham Noor Yusry on 013-9121508 or visit the Muar District Traffic Police headquarters to assist with the investigation.

“Road users are also advised to exercise caution when crossing roads, comply with traffic regulations, and prioritise their own safety as well as that of other road users,” he added.
