Probe papers on heritage player issue being finalised, says Saifuddin


 KUALA LUMPUR: Investigation papers related to the alleged falsification of birth certificates involving seven Harimau Malaya heritage players are being finalised and will be referred to the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) for further instructions, says Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

The Home Minister said action would be taken once instructions are received from the AGC.

"The ministry, through the police, confirms that it has received a police report lodged by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) concerning the findings of the Independent Investigation Committee (IIC)," he said in a parliamentary written reply on Wednesday (Feb 4).

Saifuddin Nasution said that based on the report, police opened an investigation paper under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.

"The investigation also involves cooperation with the National Registration Department (NRD) to verify the authenticity of identity documents and birth certificates linked to the seven players concerned," he said.

Ramkarpal Singh (PH-Bukit Gelugor) wanted to know the status of police investigations following recommendations by the IIC, including whether or not investigations into the falsification of birth certificates of the seven players had begun as well as the outcome of those investigations.
