SEREMBAN: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has obtained an order to remand a senior army officer for six days for allegedly soliciting and accepting bribes totalling some RM28,000.
The remand order was signed by Magistrate Sara Afiqah Zulkifli following an application by the MACC.
The suspect, in his 50s, will be remanded until Feb 9 to assist in investigations.
A source said the bribes were an inducement to extend the contract for photography services, including the sale of photographs and souvenirs, as well as from other contractors who obtained contracts at his workplace.
It is learnt that the suspect was detained around 4.30pm on Tuesday (Feb 3) at the MACC office here.
"Based on preliminary investigations, the suspect was involved in the alleged corrupt practices between 2024 and 2025 when he was a director.
"It is believed that he received between RM500 and RM3,000 in bribes every month and the cash was transferred directly into his personal account," he said.
When contacted, Negri Sembilan MACC director Awgkok Ahmad Taufik Putra Awg Ismail confirmed the case which was being probed under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
