MyCC probes 500 firms under anti-competitive activities

KUALA LUMPUR: THE Malaysia Competition Commission (MyCC) is currently investigating more than 500 companies for anti-competitive activities, including bid-rigging, says Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali.

“However, specifically on bid rigging, action has been taken on four cases since the establishment of MyCC from 2022 until 2025.

“This includes a case last year involving the Federal Territories Department (JWP) regarding a tender at Perbadanan Putrajaya,” said the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister.

“MyCC’s capacity is not very large, but we are deeply grateful to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for allocating RM5mil to set up a special unit for bid rigging.

“With that, we are confident that we can increase our efficiency and also strengthen our cooperation with others, including JWP,” he said during a press conference after the signing of a letter of understanding between MyCC, an agency under the ministry, and JWP.

The document was signed by JWP director-general Datuk Seri Noridah Abdul Rahim and MyCC chairman Tan Sri Idrus Harun, witnessed by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh and Armizan.

The document underscores the aim to strengthen the implementation of the government’s agenda in combating anti-competitive practices, particularly cartels or bid-rigging arrangements, and is part of ongoing efforts to improve public procurement governance, eradicate cartels and curb bid-rigging practices that undermine the efficiency of public expenditure.
