School principal killed after car hits electric pole in Kudat


KUALA LUMPUR: The principal of SMK Sikuati, Kudat, has passed away following an accident on Wednesday (Jan 28) evening.

Prior to the 5.30pm mishap, the victim identified as Ahmad Mehdunah, 60, was said to have been driving from Kota Kinabalu to Kudat when he was believed to have lost control of the vehicle along kilometre 18 Jalan Kudat.

Kudat OCPD Supt Mohd Haris Ibrahim said according to initial information, the victim was seen to swerve to the side of the road before falling into a drain and crashing into an electric pole near the RTM Sikuati junction.

"Witnesses on site who went to check on the victim found that he was unconscious with no visible injuries on him," he said in a statement on Thursday (Jan 29).

He said an emergency call was received at around 5.50pm and responders arrived at the scene not long afterwards.

"Medical officials brought the victim’s body to the Kudat Hospital for further action and to find out the cause of death," said Supt Mohd Haris.

"The Kudat police contingent conveys its condolences and sympathies to the families left behind," he said while advising road users to be vigilant on the road.

Matunggong assemblywoman Datuk Julita Majungki shared her condolence message on her official Facebook page, as well as a photo of her last meeting with the deceased during an event in 2025.

She said his death is a loss to the school and local communities in Kudat.

"May the bereaved family find comfort and strength during these difficult times," she said.

Many social media users described Ahmad as a caring and dedicated teacher who would be difficult to replace.
