KOTA KINABALU: A huge crocodile lurking in a river in Merotai, Tawau, has been captured.

The five-metre long male reptile was caught on Wednesday following an integrated operation between wildlife rangers and villagers of Kg Pangkalan Asli, according to Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah president Tan Sri Liew Yun Fah who lives in Merotai.

He said the operation was initiated after villagers lodged a report, fearing for the safety of those who use the river for their daily activities.

With the crocodile’s capture, the wildlife rangers would take charge of it according to set procedures, Liew said.

Villagers noted the crocodile’s bulging belly when they spotted it while at the river to fish.
