PETALING JAYA: Effective strategic communication is a key element to build public trust in Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC)'s role in the fight against corruption.
MACC strategic communications division director Hisyam Mohd Yusoff said its liaison officers play an important role in delivering anti-corruption messages to ensure information is conveyed accurately and widely.
He said it is important to ensure anti-corruption messages are delivered consistently and effectively through various channels.
"The MACC is also actively involved in public education, strategic communication and improvements in organisational governance," he said in his speech at the closing ceremony of the northern zone media management enhancement programme at the Kedah MACC office on Wednesday (Jan 28).
Hisyam said improving competency in news reports is crucial to ensure that MACC activities, initiatives and achievements are reported accurately.
The two-day programme, which began on Tuesday (Jan 27), involved 15 MACC officers from Kedah, Penang, Perak and Perlis, with the objective of enhancing officers' capabilities in media management and more effective information dissemination.
During the programme, participants were exposed to media management techniques, strategic communication handling, as well as news and feature writing.
MACC strategic communication division officers also shared guidelines on report formatting and writing style, in addition to photography techniques for internal dissemination and media coverage, to ensure information is structured, accurate and easy to understand.
Meanwhile, Kedah MACC deputy director (prevention) Syed Aswadi Syed Soffian said they welcomed such knowledge-sharing programmes to enhance the skills of its officers.
"Programmes like this not only strengthen officers' communication skills but also help standardise writing styles and ensure all dissemination complies with established publication standards," he said.
