Cops on the hunt for two men after patrol car chase in Meru

KLANG: Police are hunting two local men after a dramatic chase in Meru during which they ignored police orders to stop and sprayed a fire extinguisher at a patrol car causing it to skid off the road.

North Klang OCPD Asst Comm S. Vijaya Rao said the incident occurred at about 10pm on Jan 26 when a police mobile patrol vehicle (MPV) from North Klang district police headquarters was conducting routine patrols.

"Police came across a vehicle in suspicious circumstances and ordered the driver to stop.

"However, the suspect ignored the instruction and sped off in an attempt to escape," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Jan 27).

It was then that the suspects forced the police patrol vehicle off the road with a fire extinguisher, said ACP Vijaya, adding that both men fled the scene and their vehicle was later found abandoned.

"No injuries were reported among police personnel," he said.

ACP Vijaya Rao said efforts to trace and arrest the suspects are ongoing. He added that a police report has been lodged and investigations are being carried out under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of his duties, which carries a punishment of up to two years' imprisonment, a fine of up to RM10,000, or both.

The public has been advised not to spread unverified information or speculation that could cause public anxiety, warning that firm action will be taken against any acts that threaten public order.
