Company fined RM10,000 for selling coffee containing erectile dysfunction drug

KUALA LUMPUR: A company has been fined RM10,000 by the Selayang Sessions Court after pleading guilty to selling coffee containing a scheduled poison.

Judge Norazlin Othman handed down the sentence to the company, represented by its director, Teh Yew Sim, 54. He paid the fine.

The company was charged with selling 40 sachets of "Kopi Jantan" to a Gombak health officer. Upon analysis, the product was found to contain 1310.61mg per kilogram of Tadalafil (an erectile dysfunction drug), which is a scheduled poison and constituted the sale of food containing prohibited additives.

The offence took place at a food outlet in Batu Caves at noon on Aug 11, 2025, and the charge was framed under Section 13(B)(1) and Section 13B(2)(d) Section 13(B)(4) of the Food Act 1983.

Gombak Health Office prosecuting officer VS Vivig Dinesh requested an appropriate sentence, saying Tadalafil can only be administered to patients via prescription from registered and qualified doctors and is strictly prohibited as a food additive.

He said the coffee, if consumed daily carries serious health risks and can lead to heart attacks and strokes. – Bernama
