Kinabatangan, Lamag wins testament to unity govt’s strength, says Gagasan veep

KINABATANGAN: The landslide Kinabatangan and Lamag by-election wins reflect the strength of cooperation in the newly formed unity government in Sabah, says Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan) vice president Datuk Masiung Banah.

He said the close working relationship between state unity government partners Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), Pakatan Harapan and Upko significantly boosted the large majority obtained by both Barisan candidates in the two constituencies.

Masiung, who is the Kuamut assemblyman, thanked GRS leaders who worked tirelessly throughout the campaign to support Mohd Kurniawan Naim Moktar in Kinabatangan and Mohd Ismail Ayob @ Miha in Lamag.

“Politics is always turning like a wheel; this unity in the state coalition leads to a win-win approach for political stability,” Masiung said, referring to previous elections where most parties contested against each other and winning majorities were small.

He said this time around, the Kinabatangan and Lamag by-election campaigns demonstrated close collaboration between GRS, Barisan, Upko, and Pakatan that reflected a mature level of politics achieved through the formation of the unity government at the state level.

“We in GRS have done everything possible to help Barisan achieve this resounding victory after receiving instructions from Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Haji Noor.

“We hope that parties based in Malaya will respect this cooperation, as its effectiveness in Sabah was already proven during the last state election,” he added.
