Fire destroys three squatter houses at Kampung Bellamy


KUALA LUMPUR: Three squatter houses were completely destroyed in a fire this morning at Jalan Kwangyi, Kampung Bellamy, near the Nirvana Cemetery grounds here.

The Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Operations Centre said it received an emergency call at 7.38am on Friday (Jan 23), prompting a team from Hang Tuah Fire and Rescue Station to rush to the scene.

"Upon arrival, the fire was found to have spread over an area of about 300 by 300 square feet. Apart from three houses, the fire also affected two refrigerated containers and two vehicles, which were completely damaged," the department said in a statement on Friday.

There were no reports of casualties, and eyewitnesses said no one was trapped or injured in the incident.

The fire was fully contained by 8.20am, and the cause was under investigation. – Bernama
