Proof of overseas travel not needed to apply for physical driving licence from Jan 23

PETALING JAYA: All Malaysian driving licence holders may now apply for a physical card without needing proof of upcoming overseas travel, says the Transport Ministry.

It said licence holders may apply for a card at all Road Transport Department (JPJ) and Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) counters nationwide from Friday (Jan 23).

They will, however, be charged a printing fee of RM20 (Malaysians) or RM100 (non-Malaysians).

The printing fee will be waived for those aged 60 and above; holders of Class A1 and A licences; and persons with disability (OKU) card holders registered with the Social Welfare Department, the ministry added in a statement on Thursday (Jan 22).

Those who opt for the digital licence will be able to renew it via the MyJPJ mobile application without having to visit any counter, it added.

"This change is a measure to reduce bureaucratic procedures and JPJ has been instructed to no longer require proof of overseas travel for the printing of physical licences.

"The Ministry and JPJ are committed to continuously improving services for the public.

"The public is encouraged to fully utilise the electronic licence through the MyJPJ app for a more convenient, faster and smoother experience," the statement read.
