India lauds Malaysia for comprehensive labour reform agenda

PETALING JAYA: India has praised Malaysia for its labour reform agenda, describing it as courageous in advancing policies to strengthen workers’ rights, says Datuk Seri Ramanan Ramakrishnan.

The Human Resources Minister said the remarks were made by Indian High Commissioner to Malaysia BN Reddy, who made a courtesy visit to the former’s office in Parliament earlier on Thursday (Jan 22).

“Reddy described Malaysia as a country that has shown the courage to take bold steps towards implementing a comprehensive labour reform agenda.

“This includes reforms aimed at empowering workers, strengthening trade unions, and ensuring fair rights across regions and sectors, including the gig economy under the leadership of the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim,” he shared in a Facebook post on Thursday (Jan 22).

Ramanan said the nearly hour-long meeting was also used to exchange views on efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Malaysia and India.

“Both parties expressed their commitment and desire to further expand the existing strategic relationship.

“I am confident that this meeting will open up new opportunities that will bring mutual benefits to Malaysia and India,” he added.
