Lorry driver dies after being pinned between two vehicles in Ulu Tiram

JOHOR BARU: A lorry driver died after being pinned between two vehicles at an industrial area here on Friday (Jan 16).

Seri Alam OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said police received a report regarding the incident, which occurred in Ulu Tiram, at about 10.10am on Friday.

“The 55-year-old male victim was standing between his lorry and a van while waiting for his turn to load goods at the loading bay.

“After that, a 58-year-old man parked his lorry on a slope behind the victim’s lorry without engaging the handbrake.

“The driver then got out of the vehicle to head to the security guard post when his lorry suddenly rolled forward and hit the victim’s lorry,” he said in a statement on Saturday (Jan 17).

He added that due to the impact, the victim’s lorry moved forward and hit the victim, causing him to be crushed between his lorry and the van.

“The victim, who suffered severe internal injuries was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The body was then taken to Pasir Gudang Hospital for a post-mortem,” he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

ACP Mohd Sohaimi advised the public to always be patient, obey road rules and follow traffic regulations.

“They should remain cautious, vigilant and serious while on the road.
