A 59-YEAR-OLD man ran amok at a kopitiam before attacking a hardware store assistant in Kangar, Perlis, Sin Chew Daily reported.

Kangar OCPD Asst Comm Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop said the man, armed with a pair of meat cleavers, entered the coffee shop at 3.45pm on Tuesday and got into an argument with a 43-year-old businessman.

Video footage of the incident shows the suspect slashing at the victim.

The victim managed to fend off most of the blows with a plastic chair.

“The businessman suffered a cut on his left hand and later received five stitches at a nearby clinic before lodging a police report,” ACP Yusharifuddin said.

The suspect made his way to a hardware store about 30 minutes later, allegedly to buy more knives.

Upset at having to wait, he attacked the store assistant with a metal rod, smashing a laptop and a glass display cabinet in the process.

Police arrested the suspect at 5.15pm at a nearby coffee shop.

The case is being investigated under Sections 324 and 427 of the Penal Code for causing hurt with a weapon and mischief.

> A convenience store in Guangdong, China, sparked a heated online discussion for selling tofu shaped like a shoe insole, reported China Press.

Patrons reported that the product, known as Shoe Sole Tofu, came in various sizes.

The smallest, at 16cm, costs 2.5 yuan (RM1.45), while the largest, at 24cm, costs three yuan (RM1.74).

The product will only be available at the store between Jan 4 and Feb 3 and may not be sold again afterward, according to workers there.
