Ponggal cheer for 40 families

THE Ponggal celebration of 40 Indian families in Bangi, Selangor was made more cheerful thanks to their MP Syahredzan Johan, Makkal Osai reported.

The families under the B40 income category received cooking essentials and foodstuff to help prepare for the important festival. The gift packet included clay pots, rice, milk, cashew nuts and raisins.

The special programme was organised through the Bangi constituency service centre to help alleviate some of the burden of the families, Syahredzan said.

 

> A sanitation worker in Tamil Nadu, India, who returned gold jewellery worth RM200,000 she found on the street, was rewarded by the state government, Makkal Osai reported.

The worker, identified as Padma, found a bag containing 360g of gold near Pondy Bazaar.

She handed over the bag to a nearby police station and the authorities were able to reunite it with the owner who had reported it missing.

She was awarded 100,000 rupees (RM4,500).
