Umno confident its Sekolah Politik programme will yield a future PM

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno aims to produce a future prime minister candidate through its Sekolah Politik Umno programme, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Umno president expressed confidence that the party’s fortunes can be revived through the programme, which aims to groom and train young party members on upholding the sovereignty of race, religion and country.

"Umno will be celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2046. I am hopeful that by then, or even before that, our party will not only be relevant but reach greater heights owing to the graduates of this programme.

"We want to see a future Prime Minister coming from among programme graduates. That is our goal," he said in his speech during the programme's convocation ceremony at the World Trade Centre here on Tuesday (Jan 13).

A total of 56 individuals graduated from the programme on Monday (Jan 12), with a total of 158 graduates produced since the programme's inception last year.

In his speech, Umno vice president Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said the programme aims to ensure leadership continuity in the party.

"We are committed to ensuring all modules in the programme will produce leaders who are brave and full of integrity," he said.
