Safety fears grow over elephant intrusions

REPEATED wild elephant intrusions have left residents of the Kesedar Chalil Land Development Plan settlement in Gua Musang, Kelantan, worried for their safety, reported Kosmo!.

Residents have become increasingly distressed after the last intrusion on Sunday, that left crops and house porches heavily damaged by the herd of about 20 elephants.

“My son and I were extremely scared and huddled together indoors,” said Hazura Ismail, 40, of the incident. “I only dared to step outside after I heard the motorbike engines of my fellow villagers, who told me the elephants had left, but not before damaging our porch.”

Another resident, Zaid Yaacob, 61, said the elephants have become increasingly bold, not only destroying crops but also posing a serious threat to villagers’ safety.

“They destroyed banana plants, coconut and rubber trees, and in the recent incident, the elephants were right behind our houses, damaging fences and homes.”

Mukim Chalil federal village security management committee chairman Hasan Saleh said residents have repeatedly lodged complaints on the elephant attacks with the Wildlife and National Parks Department but have yet to see effective action.

“We hope the authorities will take immediate steps such as closer monitoring, control measures or relocation to ensure the safety of residents,” he said.

The 27-year-old, whose full name is Nur Ezzanie Sherazade Jasny, said that she sustained a head injury, but was relieved that her parents were unhurt.

“I was involved in a car accident with my parents, but thankfully, they are safe.

“I am still not fully recovered as I suffered a head injury and am unsure of the full extent of my injuries,” she said in an Instagram post on Sunday.

Ezzani, known for her role in the hit drama Dia Bukan Syurga, added that she is awaiting a full medical assessment on her condition.

Despite the scare, Ezzani said she remains positive as she focuses on her recovery.

“I am waiting for the doctor to update me. Please do pray for us, thank you,” she said to her follo­wers in the post.

The actress did not provide details on what caused the accident, but shared a photo of herself lying on a hospital bed.
