Road fatality shadows start of new school term


KUALA TERENGGANU: A Form Three boy did not make it to the first day of school, as he tragically died in a road accident.

Noor Hazimi Noor Hashim (pic) passed away at the scene from severe injuries sustained when his motor­cycle collided with a car, said ACP Azli Mohd Noor, the police chief of Kuala Terengganu.

According to ACP Azli, ­preliminary investigations found that the accident occurred when the Honda EX5 motorcycle which was being ­ridden by the deceased from the direction of the Pengadang Baru Caltex ­petrol station, was struck by a Perodua Axia car travelling from Kampung Serada towards the direction of Titian Baru, Tepoh, Kuala Nerus.

“Police received a call at 7.55am yesterday from a ­member of the public, reporting an ­accident on Jalan Kepong, Kuala Terengganu,” he said in a statement, adding that the driver of the Axia was not hurt, Bernama reported.

ACP Azli said the case is currently being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Noor Hashim Puteh, 55, the father of Noor Hazimi, stated that his son, a student at SMK Padang Midin, was on his way home to Kampung Belukar Sukai after refuelling at the petrol station which was located about 5km away.

According to Noor Hisham, his son had intended to fetch his 14-year-old sister from home before the two rode to school together on the motorcycle.
