Suspects in Melaka karaoke outlet brawl remanded


MELAKA: Dissatisfaction over the selection of songs led to six individuals being remanded after a fight at a karaoke outlet in Taman Melaka Raya here.

All six suspects were produced in court in Ayer Keroh here on Friday (Jan 9), where Magistrate N. Sivashangari issued remand orders ranging from one to four days.

One suspect was remanded for four days until Monday (Jan 12), while the other five were remanded for one day to assist investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 36 of the Arms Act 1960 for possession and importation of an imitation firearm, Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation, and Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting.

On Thursday (Jan 8), Melaka police confirmed that an imitation gun was seized during an early morning scuffle involving partygoers at the karaoke outlet.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit said the brawl occurred at about 4am following dissatisfaction over the choice of songs by one of the guests.

He said the disagreement escalated into a heated confrontation involving six individuals, who were believed to be intoxicated at the time, before turning physical.
