Man charged while still warded at Seremban hospital with possessing IED

SEREMBAN: A 62-year-old man has claimed trial before Sessions Court judge Surita Budin to three counts of possessing explosive substances and another charge of using an improvised explosive device (IED) with the intent of causing injury to others.

Yeoh Hock Sun was charged on Friday (Jan 9) while still warded at the Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital.

He also pleaded not guilty to a fifth charge of causing damage to a pick-up truck after an IED allegedly in his possession detonated.

The accused was charged with three counts of possessing explosives at an apartment in Desa Palma, in a car at the Star Valley parking area in Nilai and along the main road in Kg Batang Benar, Mantin.

He allegedly committed the offences on 12.30pm and 7.30pm on Dec 22 and 4.15pm on Dec 27, 2025.

Yeoh was charged under Section 3 of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958, which carries a jail term of up to seven years and whipping upon conviction.

For the fourth charge, Yeoh was accused of using an offensive weapon with the intent to cause harm.

He allegedly committed the offence around 5.55am on Dec 22 at the Desa Palma apartment parking lot.

The accused was charged under Section 4 of the same Act, which carries a jail term of up to three years and whipping upon conviction.

For the fifth charge, he was accused of committing mischief by using the IED to cause damage to a pick-up truck at the same place and time under section 435 of the Penal Code, which provides a jail term of up to 14 years and a fine.

Proceedings adjourned for 20 minutes after the first charge was read to Yeoh because he complained of breathing difficulties.

The session continued after specialists and doctors examined him and certified him as stable.

Judge Surita denied Yeoh bail and fixed Feb 12 for submission of documents and to allow the accused to appoint counsel.

The accused was arrested in Batang Benar, Nilai on Dec 27 with burn marks on his face, body, hands and feet.

Police said the suspect is believed to have technical knowledge of explosives after devices and equipment were found and seized from his rented house.
