Economy Ministry to fast-track small-scale  13MP  projects

PUTRAJAYA: Small-scale projects under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) will be fast-tracked by the Economy Ministry, says Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir (pic).

The Economy Minister said projects that are people-centric have the biggest impact on the ground.

“When the people see the government fixing real problems such as broken bridges, potholes and dilapidated quarters, schools and clinics, this will increase public confidence and reduce complaints,” he said in his New Year address at the ministry here yesterday.

He said he took note of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s New Year address, which specifically highlighted the ministry’s role in accelerating the implementation of small projects.

Akmal Nasrullah said there was a need to correct the perception that only mega projects could deliver economic impact.

“We must ensure all small-scale projects are completed, running smoothly and truly felt by the people,” he added.

He said that through close coordination between the Economy, Finance and Works ministries, the government wanted to ensure projects are implemented and completed according to schedule and quality.

“Most importantly, it must not only improve basic amenities but also stimulate local economies, create jobs and reduce developmental gaps between rural and urban areas,” he added.

Akmal Nasrullah also announced that the Economy Ministry will hold a special retreat at the month-end to detail indicators, targets and project execution plans, including on small projects.

“We want every initiative to have an owner, a timeline and clear responsibilities,” he added.

Akmal Nasrullah said Forum Ekonomi Malaysia (FEM) 2026 with the theme “Accelerating Growth, Advancing Malaysia” is scheduled to be officiated by the Prime Minister on Feb 5.

He said the event will focus on strategic discussions to identify methods to implement socio-economic development projects under 13MP as well as issues hindering inclusive and sustainable growth.

FEM 2026, he added, is a platform where lawmakers, industry players, investors as well as local and international academicians can share experiences and best practices in order to create a coherent narrative on economic development.

“We have also invited subject matter industry experts and leaders who will be beneficial in the discussions,” he added.
