Man fulfils dead son’s organ donation wish

A RETIRED policeman has fulfilled the final wish of his 27-year-old son to become an organ donor after he succumbed to injuries sustained in a road accident, Kosmo! reported.

Amirrulmukminin Mohd Zain died on Jan 2 after battling for his life for eight days following a crash on the East Coast Expressway 2 (LPT2) on Dec 25.

He was confirmed brain dead at Kemaman Hospital.

His father Mohd Zain Daud, 64, said the family later discovered an organ donor pledge card in Amirrulmukminin’s wallet.

“He had mentioned his intention of doing so while studying at UiTM Seri Iskandar, but we thought he was joking at the time,” he said at his residence in Kota Baru.

The organ procurement surgery was conducted at Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu where his eyes, bones and kidneys were donated.

Nur Adila Wa Chek, 45, said she is selling burgers to earn a living but the daily profit is only about RM15.

“I work till midnight. Then I would get up early next day to send my children to school,” she said.

Her house in Sik, Kedah, is also without a regular water supply.

She was widowed in December 2024 when her husband died due to health complications.

“I’m not asking for a life of comfort. It would be enough to have food for the children and basic items like a refrigerator and washing machine,” she said.
